Tricky Britches

The story of the band begins in the spring of 2009. Seth, Tyler and Nick, three long-time friends from Gorham, Maine, sought to turn back-porch jam sessions and local street corner busking into a means of traveling the country. They spent a sleepless night recording a homemade album of Old-Time tunes, and when it came time to stamp a name on the CD, Tricky Britches was born.
The weekend before the boys set out, they happened to be jamming in their usual spot on the cobblestones of Portland's Wharf Street. By chance, Seth's roommate, Jed Bresette, stopped by with his banjo and jumped in. They played a handful of standards together, and marveled at this new sound. The instruments blended into one oncoming machine, and their harmonies echoed down the red brick walls of the Old Port. All the old fiddle tunes, country songs, and bluegrass melodies took on a life of their own, and before they knew it, an eager crowd had gathered round.
Two days later, Jed quit his job painting houses, and the four of them hit the road the next morning.

Since then, Tricky Britches has recorded a new 12 track EP, Hop on a Train, at Portland's own Acadia Recording Company. In the summer of 2010 the boys successfully toured thirteen countries in Europe, over the course of three and a half months. From Norwegian mountains all the way to Croatian beaches, crowds gathered round, danced, and hooted to the old-timey tunes and songs. Their second album, Hard Fought Day, was released in the spring of 2011, full of original songs, and featuring the band's newest member, "Bear" Wilkinson, singing and playing tenor banjo.

Gunther Brown Windjammers Festival

Gunther Brown is a four piece Americana band from Portland, Maine.

Of their new new album, The Portland Phoenix said, Good Nights for Daydreams is "the most sorrowful local record since Ray Lamontagne's 'Till the Sun Turns Black'". In predicting this January release as likely one of the top releases of all 2014, Portland Press Herald says Gunther Brown singer Pete Dubuc sounds like "a world-weary Steve Earle."

As stellar reviews of Good Nights for Daydreams roll in, the album became the top local selling album, the band played two sold out CD release shows on the same night and local brewery, Funky Bow, released a signature Gunther Brown Ale. The band also released an official music video for the album's first single, Forever.

Having previously released two EPs, Good Nights for Daydreams is Gunther Brown's first full length album. The band was formed in 2007 with Dubuc and drummer, Derek Mills, as principals. Guitarist, Chris Plumstead, and bassist, Mark McDonough, would join up later. As personal styles meshed, the folk influences of Dubuc, marrying the rootsy blues rock influences of Plumstead, it became clear Good Nights for Daydreams would be a proper full length debut for the band.

Produced by Jonathan Wyman and mastered by Adam Ayan of Gateway Mastering, Good Nights for Daydreams also features guest vocals by Mister Moon. It was released, January 28th, 2014.

On stage, Gunther Brown has supported the likes of Eilen Jewell, Larkin Poe and Joe Pug.

Gillen and Turk New York

Fred Gillen Jr. and Matt Turk first began working together informally, having enjoyed each other's music at various events in the Hudson Valley. After some inspiring shows together they decided to team up as Gillen & Turk. Soon after that they received world-wide notice in an Associated Press article that featured the duo auditioning for the Metropolitan Transit Authority's Music Under New York in Manhattan. In May 2008 Gillen & Turk released their first duo CD Backs to the Wall and spent part of the year touring nationally, with the recording supporting the tour. The CD was well-received by critics and fans, and by early 2009 the first pressing was nearly sold out. The song "Fall Down" from the disc also appeared on CMJ's 10,000 copy 2008 Player Compilation CD. In the summer of 2008, Gillen & Turk were featured on the television show NYC Soundtracks, on the MSG

"Life takes a lifetime," sings Lisa Donnelly in "Naturally," one of 10 radiant songs on her solo debut, We Had a Thing. With Zen simplicity, this phrase neatly introduces a superlative singer/songwriter who embraces existence and inspiration with equal fervor. Her songs capture fortuitous moments as she marvels at an 83-year old clairvoyant who reads her future at a dinner party on "Laugh," backpacks through the cobblestone streets of Spain with the guitar-toting troubadour, "Julian," and sizes up an interest of lust on "Little Devil." Electronic and organic textures illuminate her irrepressible artistry with prevailing grooves and vibrant instrumentation.
